Abstract

Used vegetable oil methyl ester (UVOME) was tested in a direct injection diesel engine as biodiesel and in blends (B20, B80). UVOME showed comparable performance to diesel, reduced brake specific fuel consumption, lower CO and HC emissions, but slightly higher NOx emissions. Results support biodiesel as a renewable, non-polluting alternative energy source. © 2011 IEEE. © 2013 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
