Abstract

Aluminum metal matrix composites reinforced with silicon carbide (SiC) were investigated for corrosion resistance, mechanical properties, and wear behavior. Compositions included 100% Al-0% SiC, 96.5% Al-3.5% SiC, and 93% Al-7% SiC. Stir casting was used for fabrication. Microstructural analysis showed SiC particle clustering and non-homogeneous distribution, with increased porosity at higher SiC content. Hardness, tensile strength, and weight percentage improved with SiC addition. Pin-on-disc wear tests indicated enhanced wear resistance due to SiC reinforcement.
