This article is about the fabrication and determination of mechanical properties of a composite laminate made by using a fabric which is made from renewable sources and it is also biodegradable The Lyocell fibers are produced by using an ecofnendly process. Polyester resin was used as a matrix and woven and knitted Lyocell fabrics were used as reinforcement. The composite laminates were fabricated using compression molding process. Woven fabric was subjected to the tensile test and the knitted fabric was subjected to the bursting strength test. Composite laminate reinforced with one layer of woven and one layer of knitted fabric (LWK) exhibited 42 % increase in tensile strength. The composite laminate reinforced with two layers of woven fabric (LWW) exhibited a very good combination of tensile modulus, tensile strength. flexural modulus, flexural strength and Impact strength. By incorporating only 4.3 wt % Lyocell fiber, all these improvements could be achieved. © 2022 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
