Abstract

Abstract: A harmless, straightforward, and selective method for oxidizing benzyl bromides to benzyl alcohols using conventional techniques and subsequent conversion of benzyl alcohols to benzaldehydes through an electrochemical approach utilizing hypobromous acid generated in situ from NaBr as an oxidizing agent in aqueous environment has been demonstrated. Under these reaction conditions, impressive yields of benzaldehydes ranging from 48 to 71% were obtained. This research provides a sustainable and eco-friendly strategy for synthesizing benzaldehydes from benzyl bromides. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
