Present study was conducted over 500 north and south Indian subjects in Manipal, India to establish stature of an individual using palm length. Palm length was measured from mid-point of distal transverse crease of forearm to mid-point of proximal flexion crease of middle finger. Measurements were analyzed statistically to establish the relation between palm length and stature. Linear regression equations were derived and multiplication factors were calculated. The study shows that palm length bears a significant relation to stature and can be an important tool for stature estimation. Significant differences in measurements and formulae for males and females were evident. Differences were insignificant when values were compared among same sex in north and south Indians and also between dominant and non dominant hand. © 2011 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
