Xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes, which activate procarcinogen in to ultimate carcinogen are known to play a major role in the carcinogenic effect of Poly Aromatic Hydrocarbons .Influence on Hepatic Xenobiotic enzymes and Chemopreventive effect of ethanolic extract of Indigofera aspalathoides(EIA) was tested on DMBA induced hamster buccal pouch carcinoma model. It has been observed that hamster treated with EIA showed a significantly low level of hepatic phase I enzyme and high level of Phase II enzymes, which might be the reason for its chemopreventive effect. © 2010 IJDDR. © 2011 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
