Induction Motors and Synchronous Motors are widely used in industries. They fail in their popularity when speed regulation is required. In several cases high torque in minimum time and simple controllability are often desired. Permanent Magnet Synchronous Reluctance Motors have gained interest in these applications due to several factors like easy controllability and reduced cost. The permanent magnets used here are made of neodymium-iron-boron and now they are commercially available at affordable cost. These Permanent Magnet Synchronous Reluctance Motors have proved to be very good because of their speed controllability and high power density. A modified design in the location of permanent magnets in the flux barriers of rotor is proposed. The performance results are obtained theoretically and validated by experimental work. Finite Element Method is used to analyse the design parameters. This improved design enables better performance in applications like robotics, printer and spinning industries. © EuroJournals Publishing, Inc. 2012. © 2014 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
