Abstract

Many algorithms have been proposed for maximum power point tracking with varying degree of complexity and efficiency. This paper suggests an algorithm which is an improved and current-controlled version of Fractional open circuit voltage technique with the inclusion of a indirect irradiation control thus increasing the efficiency of power extraction from the PV module but at the same time the complexity has not increased much. The algorithm has been implemented with the help of a high performance, low power advanced RISC architecture-based microcontroller. The control technique implemented was robust such that the possibility of divergence from the optimal operating point and the oscillations around it is almost negligible. The proposed algorithm was executed through the DC-DC Buck converter which acts as an interface between the PV module and the Load. Experimental implementation has been made and the results obtained from the hardware clearly show the improvement in performance both in tracking and power extraction efficiencies. © 2024 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
