Abstract

Betaine protects against isoprenaline-induced myocardial infarction in Wistar rats by stabilizing lysosomal enzymes and reducing lipid peroxidation. Pretreatment (250 mg/kg daily for 30 days) prevented changes in ß-glucuronidase, ß-galactosidase, ß-glucosidase, acid phosphatase activities, and lipid peroxidation levels. Oral betaine had no effect on normal controls. © 2010 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
