Abstract

Osteomyelitis variolosa due to smallpox virus (variola major) presented in a 70-year-old woman with deformities of elbows, wrists, ankles, hands, and feet. Clinical findings included hypoplastic femoral condyle, patella baja, ankylosed/dislocated elbows, shortened metacarpals, and stiff taluses. Case highlights long-term orthopedic complications of smallpox infection. © MEDLINE/PubMed.
