Abstract
A Supervisory Hierarchical Fuzzy Controller (SHFC) for Power System Stabilizers (PSS) is proposed to damp low-frequency oscillations in Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) systems. The controller has an intelligent supervisory fuzzy layer and a lower-level direct fuzzy controller. Dynamic performance under various operating conditions shows improvements over conventional PSS and direct fuzzy PSS methods. © 2011 IEEE. © 2011 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
