The anti-stress effect of betaine was evaluated in Wistar albino rats exposed to restraint stress (6 h/day for 30 days). Betaine (250 mg/kg) prevented stress-induced alterations in plasma protein, corticosterone, lipid peroxidation, and maintained enzymic and non-enzymic antioxidants in lymphoid tissues, demonstrating significant antioxidant-mediated anti-stress activity. © Cell Stress Society International 2011. © 2012 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
