This study evaluated antidiabetic activity of aqueous and ethanolic extracts of prop roots of Pandanus fascicularis in STZ-induced diabetic rats. Both extracts (250 mg/kg) significantly reduced fasting blood glucose levels, with ethanol extract yielding 131.00 ± 1.92 mg/kg and aqueous extract 102.00 ± 1.73 mg/kg after 3 hours. Chromatographic analysis of the ethanol fraction isolated a compound characterized as Hepta deca-5-ene-1-ol. Results suggest potential use in diabetes treatment. © 2012 Asian Pacific Tropical Biomedical Magazine. © 2012 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
