Abstract

This study assessed prevalence and molecular characterization of MRSA in 172 patients in Puducherry, India. Of 72 isolates, 51 were MRSA and 21 MSSA. MRSA showed resistance to beta-lactams but sensitivity to macrolide and lincosamide antibiotics; femA, mecA, and lukS genes were present in 100%, 94.4%, and 69.4% of isolates. Findings indicate rising CA-MRSA prevalence. © Springer-Verlag 2012. © 2024 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
