Abstract

Jugular phlebectasia is an isolated saccular or fusiform dilation of a vein without tortuosity. It is often asymptomatic and underdiagnosed. Internal Jugular Vein (IJV) phlebectasia is rare, mostly unilateral on the right side, and usually occurs in childhood. Conservative management is recommended for asymptomatic cases; symptomatic cases may require surgery. Diagnosis is suggested clinically and confirmed via noninvasive radiology. This report presents a unilateral right IJV phlebectasia in a 12-year-old female, evaluated using ultrasonography with Doppler and contrast-enhanced CT. © 2014 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
