Abstract

This study evaluates the antioxidant activity of alcoholic leaf extract of Solanum surattense (S. surattense). In vitro assays including hydroxyl radical, hydrogen peroxide, superoxide anion radical, and DPPH radical scavenging, total antioxidant activity, and reducing ability were performed. Total phenolic content was also analyzed. S. surattense extract showed potent, dose-dependent antioxidant activity comparable to standard antioxidants such as BHT, ascorbic acid, and α-tocopherol. The study supports therapeutic benefits of traditional Indian medicine. © 2013 Asian Pacific Tropical Biomedical Magazine. © 2015 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
