Abstract

Introduction: Dental caries has a multifactorial etiology. Early detection and prevention are essential. Aim: Compare sensitivity and specificity of Snyder test (ST), lactobacillus count (LBC), and Cariostat in mixed dentition children with and without caries. Materials and Methods: 90 healthy children (79 boys, 11 girls) divided into DMFT 0 and DMFT 3-5 groups. Salivary and plaque samples collected for ST, LBC, and Cariostat. Results: LBC correlated well with caries severity; ST and LBC showed positive correlation for caries activity 1-3. Score 0 showed no correlation. Conclusions: Combining these tests is effective for assessing caries risk. © 2014 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
