Abstract

Background and Aims: To determine prevalence and risk factors of vaginal candidiasis and evaluate methods for Candida speciation in Chennai. Among 200 suspected cases, 72 (36%) Candida isolates were identified. C. albicans was most common. Resistance to fluconazole, itraconazole, and 5-flucytosine was 19.44%, 23.61%, and 41.66% respectively. All 5-flucytosine-resistant strains had mutant FUR1 genes. CHROM agar was unable to identify C. kefyr and C. parapsilosis. © 2013 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
