Abstract

Background: Pranayama plays an important role in yogic practices and produces distinct physiological effects. Aim: To study the effect of 12 weeks of slow and fast pranayama on handgrip strength and endurance among 91 volunteers. Results: Slow pranayama improved handgrip endurance; fast pranayama improved both strength and endurance. Conclusion: Pranayama reduces sympathetic activity, leading to better neuromuscular performance. © 2016 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
