Abstract

Background: Vaginal candidiasis is a common gynecological condition. This study evaluated the prevalence, species distribution, and fluconazole susceptibility of Candida species among 180 women aged 15–56 years in Puducherry. Candida was isolated in 22.2% of cases: C. albicans (65%), C. glabrata (22.5%), C. tropicalis (7.5%), and C. parapsilosis (5%). Fluconazole sensitivity was 87.5%. Conclusion: High prevalence of C. albicans and its fluconazole sensitivity support continued azole use for uncomplicated VVC. © 2014 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
