Case:
Inferior dislocation of the hip is rare, and very few cases have been reported in the English-language literature. This case report describes a patient who presented with an acutely flexed hip, with the thigh almost parallel to the long axis of the trunk, the knee flexed with slight abduction of the hip, and the patella facing upward and slightly laterally. The dislocation was treated successfully with closed reduction. Follow-up after 6, 12, and 18 months revealed no postreduction complications.
Conclusion:
Inferior dislocation of the hip is rare and can be treated successfully with closed reduction. Orthopaedic surgeons must be able to diagnose this type of dislocation and provide optimal management.
