Abstract

Background: Oil pulling, an ancient Ayurvedic practice, uses coconut or sesame oil and offers multiple health benefits. This study compares the effects of coconut and sesame oil pulling in plaque-induced gingivitis patients. Materials and Methods: Sixty participants were divided into three groups: Group A (coconut oil), Group B (sesame oil), and Group C (routine toothbrushing). Modified Gingival Index (GI) was assessed pre-intervention and on the 7th, 15th, and 21st days. Results: Significant gingivitis reduction was observed in Groups A and B, with coconut oil showing greater effectiveness. Group C showed mild improvement. Conclusion: Oil pulling is an effective oral hygiene adjunct, with coconut oil performing better than sesame oil. © 2018 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
