Abstract

Soil stabilization can be done for altering the index and engineering properties of soil to enhance the bearing capacity of the stratum. Unstable soils can create engineering problems to the structures and leads to excessive settlement and forms cracks to the structures. Hence, Ground improvement techniques are essential to make sure the higher stability of soil and prolong the life of the superstructure especially in case of soil which are highly cohesive and also it would minimize the time and cost comparatively to the other method. In connection with this, the manuscript has made an attempt to study the compaction characteristics of cohesive soil independently for a known sample condition and trying to correlate these two parameters for any optimum moisture content or maximum dry density. Standard compaction tests were carried out on soil samples for varying the percentage of lime and cement content of 3, 6, 9, 12 % and 10, 15, 20, 25% respectively. From the results, the lime and cement percentage increases with dry density decreases and OMC increases. This manuscript deals with the development of soil characteristics with stabilizing agent lime and cement. © 2019 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
