Abstract

This paper carried out the research on the axial load carrying capacity of the (CFDST) concrete filled double skin cold formed column with steel inner tube when subjected to compressive loading. CFDST column involves two concentric tubes with sandwiched concrete between them. The steel provided at the outer skin section impart stiffness and strength, the inside skin increase the ductility and in between the concrete contribute local and overall stability to the system. Finite element analysis of sandwich structure with cold formed steel is done using ANSYS. The results acquired from the finite element analysis are compared with the section capacities predicted by using simplified models. Performance compared between the CFDST column and CFST columns were presented. Good agreement in the results was found between the finite element analysis and theoretical investigation. © 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
