Abstract

This study investigates the use of Portunus sanguinolentus shell, a seafood industry waste, as filler in jute fabric-reinforced epoxy composites. The shell was powdered and used as untreated and chemically treated filler (fat removal, deproteination, decarbonization, deacetylation). Three composite types were developed: 10 wt% untreated, 10 wt% chemically treated filler, and unfilled control. Thermo-mechanical and fracture properties were assessed via tensile, flexural, compression, shear, impact, hardness, TGA, FTIR, and SEM analysis. Chemically treated shell fillers enhanced bonding between filler and fiber, reduced voids, and improved thermo-mechanical performance. Application performance was analyzed using ANSYS under loads of 0.25 kg, 0.5 kg, and 1 kg. © 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
