Abstract

Innovative medical education technologies are increasingly used as alternative teaching-learning tools for anatomy in undergraduate students. This study aimed to evaluate the outcome of digital visualizer-assisted systematic anatomy teaching for first-year dental students at Penang International Dental College, Salem, India. Fifty students were divided into two groups and subjected to conventional and digital visualizer-assisted teaching in a cross-over design on separate topics. Pre- and post-tests followed by feedback were analyzed. Both teaching methods significantly improved students’ knowledge, but post-test scores were higher with the digital visualizer. Scores for osteology teaching (10.21±0.76 & 10.39±0.83) and cadaver demonstration (8.76±0.44 & 8.80±0.41) were improved. Feedback indicated that most students considered digital visualizer an innovative aid. The study supports the integration of medical educational technologies in regular teaching-learning sessions. © 2021 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
