Abstract

Lemon grass oil was converted into biodiesel as lemon grass biodiesel methyl ester (LGB) through transesterification. Tests were conducted on a Kirloskar TV1 4-stroke diesel engine with LGB B20 blend preheated at 60°C. Performance tests showed that kinematic viscosity and density decreased with fuel temperature rise. Preheating improved brake thermal efficiency (BTE) and slightly reduced brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC). Emission characteristics at full load showed decreased CO, HC, and smoke density, with a slight increase in NOx. © 2020 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
