This study compared IGFBP-1 gene expression and methylation in cord blood between intrauterine growth restricted (IUGR) and appropriate for gestational age (AGA) neonates. IUGR neonates had significantly lower birth anthropometry (weight, length, head circumference). IGFBP-1 expression was higher in IUGR neonates and correlated with reduced birth measurements, while methylation rates were similar. Findings suggest that multiple factors, including gene expression, contribute to fetal growth restriction.
