Abstract

This study evaluated the wear behavior of Al6061 aluminum matrix composites reinforced with silicon carbide (SiC) particles (0%, 3.5%, 7% by weight) under dry sliding conditions. Stir casting was used to fabricate the composites with 44 µm SiC particles. Wear tests were conducted at loads of 10, 20, and 30 N, sliding distances of 1000, 2000, 3000 m, and velocities of 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 m/s. Taguchi orthogonal array and ANOVA were used to analyze the effect of variables. Results demonstrated that SiC reinforcement significantly improved wear resistance of Al6061 composites.
