Abstract

Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is associated with impaired fetal growth and future metabolic disease risk. This study evaluated DNA methylation in 40 IUGR and 40 gestation-matched appropriate for gestational age (AGA) neonates. Umbilical cord blood was collected, and genomic DNA methylation percentage was measured using 5-mC DNA ELISA. IUGR neonates exhibited global hypomethylation (IUGR: 3.12 ± 1.24; AGA: 4.40 ± 2.03; p<0.01), especially in regulatory regions and promoters. Differential methylation of PTPRN2 & HLADQB1 genes affects T-cell regulation and ROS, potentially leading to later complications. © 2022 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
