Abstract

This study assessed cariogenic trace elements (lead, copper, selenium, cadmium) in sound and carious permanent teeth of 60 children aged 12–14 using acid etch biopsy. Children were grouped as caries-free (n=30) or carious (n=30, DMFT 2–3). A 3 µL perchloric acid sample was applied for 3 seconds and aspirated. Unpaired t-tests showed significant differences between groups. Trace element levels were higher in carious teeth, suggesting a correlation between element presence and caries susceptibility.
