Abstract

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a major cause of liver disease in dialysis patients. This retrospective study at Aarupadai Veedu Medical College, Puducherry, included 258 chronic renal failure patients tested via 4th generation ELISA and real-time PCR. Anti-HCV antibodies were positive in 34 (13.2%) patients; HCV RNA detected in 38 (14.72%). Most seropositive patients were 41–60 years old, hypertensive, with some diabetic and multiple dialysis center exposures. Regular HCV screening and PCR detection, strict universal precautions, and dedicated machines reduce transmission risk. © 2022 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
