Abstract

Metabolic syndrome is linked to type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Early detection of at-risk individuals prevents disease development. This study evaluated the association of lipid accumulation product (LAP) and triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index with metabolic syndrome among 300 young adults (20-40 years). Metabolic syndrome was defined by modified NCEP ATP III guidelines. LAP and TyG indices were calculated and analyzed using multivariate logistic regression and ROC curves. LAP and TyG indices were significantly associated with metabolic syndrome. LAP had the highest AUC (0.882 male, 0.905 female), followed by TyG (0.875 male, 0.886 female). Cut-offs for LAP: males 45.65 (80% sensitivity), females 46.91 (88% sensitivity); TyG: males 8.63 (80% sensitivity), females 8.54 (83.3% sensitivity). Simple and inexpensive, these markers can identify metabolic syndrome with high sensitivity and specificity. © 2022 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
