Abstract

When an individual surpasses the growth phase of life, fewer parameters are available for age estimation. Cranial sutures ossification is one such parameter. This study evaluates age estimation from sagittal suture using cross-sectional multidetector computed tomography. Fifteen adult patients of known age were studied. The sagittal suture was reconstructed, divided into 4 segments, and 15 cross-sectional images per segment were viewed to assign stage values (0-6). Mean scores correlated significantly with age. Although wide prediction intervals limit forensic use, this method can supplement other adult age estimation techniques. © 2022 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
