Abstract

Highway accidents are becoming common due to driver fatigue from prolonged driving. The health status of drivers during driving is crucial. Detection of driver sleepiness is performed using image processing techniques, supplemented by physiological data. The proposed system develops a smart and lightweight highway driver sleepiness detection system using image processing. Only a camera is required to detect the driver's face, using vision cascade toolbox from MATLAB. Face and eye identification is done with region-based segmentation. A cloud-based system connects all drivers for monitoring using ThingSpeak Platform, controlled by the highway safety department. © 2022 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
