Now a day's agriculture plays an important role all over the country. Especially in India, agriculture plays a vital role in improving the economic status. India is the second largest country, which is producing rice, wheat, dry fruits, etc. Water is the main source for agriculture, and in India many places suffer from inadequate water supply. Also, depending on the type of the soil, the crops are chosen and the irrigation of the crops also varies accordingly. It's important to utilize the existing water resources and monitor water irrigation. In this paper, we proposed a smart irrigation system based on the Internet of Things to monitor the irrigation system. The proposed system continuously monitors the soil and crop condition and has a communication link with the farmer. The system is embedded with microcontroller, sensors, and WiFi module to transfer data to the farmer and to store the data in the cloud server for future requirement. The threshold values are fixed for the crops and soil and it is programmed in microcontroller. When the measured values exceed the preset values for a particular soil, the system automatically sends a message to the farmer using WiFi module and also stores the information in the cloud server for future analysis. © 2022 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
