Abstract

Antimicrobial resistance is a growing global concern. This study explored marine-derived actinomycetes for novel bioactive metabolites. Thirty isolates were obtained from marine soil in Thondi, India, with Streptomyces sp. SRMA3 showing promising activity. Extracted metabolites were partially purified and characterized via FTIR and GC–MS. The metabolites exhibited antibacterial and antibiofilm activity against drug-resistant pathogens, demonstrated synergy with commercial antibiotics, and inhibited biofilm formation. Microscopy confirmed pathogen inhibition. This study highlights Streptomyces sp. SRMA3 metabolites as potential agents for combating antimicrobial resistance. © 2022 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
