Abstract

This study assesses the position of lingula and the course of the inferior alveolar canal after sagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO) in 20 adult dry mandibles. Measurements were taken using digital calipers and radiographs, and analyzed statistically. Significant variation in lingula position between right and left sides was observed. Most canals showed curved courses and were located in the distal segment after split. Findings highlight the need to consider anatomical variations during SSRO to minimize nerve injury. © 2022 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
