In manufacturing of tools coated tools has contributing to the metal cutting process in terms of improvement in tools life, faster cutting speed and in terms of good surface finish, which is a growing issue now as a consequence of advancement in the cutting tool business. The cutting process can be can be done at either a constant surface speed (sfm, m/min.) or constant RPM. In the dry cutting process, high cutting temperatures are generated, resulting in a high wear rate of cutting instruments. TiAlN coated carbide tools are utilised in this study to machine the mild steel work piece at the appropriate process parameters. The effect of TiAlN coating thickness on wear resistance was investigated. In this study wear testing Frictional force, coefficient of frictional, and pin temperature on both coated as well as uncoated carbide tools were performed, and the results were analysed. The results of the tests reveal that coated tools have low wear rates and friction coefficients, which enhances machining productivity. © 2023 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
