Abstract

Odontogenic lesions of the maxillofacial region represent a diverse group with varying clinical behavior. Early diagnosis is essential to minimize radical surgery. Tumor markers such as PTCH and WNT1 play roles in understanding molecular mechanisms and may serve as diagnostic indicators. This study evaluated WNT1 and PTCH gene expression in peripheral blood of 8 patients with odontogenic cysts and tumors compared to 8 controls. Results showed 37.5% positive WNT1 expression and 50% PTCH expression in patients, with PTCH showing statistically significant differences from controls. These genes may be potential predictors of odontogenic lesions. © 2023 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
