Abstract

The growing adoption of container-based virtualization in edge computing environments necessitates robust security measures. This research proposes a novel hybrid security algorithm leveraging Residue Number Systems (RNS) to enhance data security in containerized systems. By combining bits permutation techniques with RNS-based encryption and decryption, the algorithm offers a flexible and efficient approach to protect data against various attacks. The RNS's ability to perform modular arithmetic operations in parallel provides additional security benefits. The proposed algorithm prioritizes data protection over risk mitigation strategies like firewall rules, MAC measures, and non-privileged mode. The choice of moduli set and RNS reverse converter significantly impacts the algorithm's efficiency in terms of time and hardware complexity. The study analyzes the time complexity of the algorithm using different moduli sets and a state-of-The-Art RNS reverse converter. To further enhance security, this research study explores the integration of AI and cloud VPN connections. These technologies can provide adaptive measures and real-Time threat detection, strengthening the overall security posture of container-based virtualization environments. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
