Abstract

Background: Homoeopathic mother tinctures are studied for managing diabetes by inhibiting key enzymes in glucose metabolism. Objective: Compare Abroma augusta Q (AAQ), Cephalandra indica Q (CIQ), Gymnema sylvestre Q (GSQ), Momordica charantia Q (MCQ), Syzygium jambolanum Q (SJQ) with Metformin (MET) for α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibition. Methods: Various concentrations were assessed via enzyme inhibition assays. Results: All tinctures showed significant inhibitory effects (p < 0.01). AAQ and GSQ exhibited potent inhibition for both enzymes with IC50 values: AAQ – α-amylase: 107.9 μL/mL, α-glucosidase: 43.87 μL/mL. Conclusion: AAQ and GSQ are potent antidiabetic mother tinctures compared with MET. © 2024 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
