Blockchain technology ranks among the most significant inventions and creative advances in the modern corporate environment. The development of blockchain technology is trending toward revolutionary and systemic change. It’s a distributed digital ledger where each block records a series of transactions that are referenced to one another cryptographically. Each block acts as a shield, protecting data and ensuring the continued confidence of its neighbors. Blockchain, a distributed ledger technology, ensures the integrity of the system. Academics and industry experts have been exploring new healthcare applications for blockchain due to the renewed interest in the technology in recent years. The exponential development of blockchain technology has unleashed a plethora of hitherto unimaginable prospects. In this piece, we’ll look at how blockchain is used in the medical field. We provide a comprehensive overview of blockchain technology, including its background, technological underpinnings, and implementations. The reasons for developing this technology and its most successful healthcare applications are also highlighted. The blockchain applications and use cases discussed in this article are divided into three categories. Electronic health record (EHR) sharing, supply chain management (SCM), and remote patient monitoring (RPM) are just some of the blockchain-based medical care applications that are evaluated. By examining the healthcare sector specifically, we demonstrate the potential of blockchain technology to disrupt established markets. We’ve also been careful to point out where other methods fall short. Some unanswered questions and suggestions for future study round out this essay. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
